There's always something nautical to do in Ft. Lauderdale to keep you in the "boating mood." Don't miss this weekends marine events:

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Nov. 3 -6. Rescheduled and now spanning 5 locations, the boat show is the place to be this weekend. For more information, times, tickets, parking, transportation in and around the show, and a list of exhibitors, please visit www.showmanagement.com .

Otter John and Wild Florida, Saturday at 1:30 pm. Join "Otter John" and his wild friends as he shares his knowledge of wildlife, enlightens your imagination and stimulates your senses through first hand experience. Face painting and balloon animals will follow. 305-669-6942.


Billfish Tournament Observer Training: Saturday at 3 p.m. Seminar at West Marine, 2300 S. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale. No cost. 954-527-5540.

Stiltsville & Key Biscayne Boat Tour: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., sponsored by the Historical Museum of Southern Florida, with historian Paul George. Cost: $34 museum members, $39 nonmembers. 305-375-1621.

FHSAA Florida High School Swimming and Diving Finals, Nov. 3 -6, Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex, 7 am - 9 pm. 954-828-4580.

Canoeing the Everglades at the Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, 10216 Lee Road, Boynton Beach, FL. A two-hour journey by canoe through the everglades. Bring canoe, PFD, water, sun and rain protection and insect repellent. Some canoeing experience recommended. Saturday, Nov. 5th at 8 am. Registration required. $5 per person. Call 561-734-8303.

Historic Oleta River Canoe Trip
Catch a view of many wading birds and mammals in their natural habitats and visit an undisturbed Tequesta Indian midden. East Greynolds Park, Northeast 167th Street and Biscayne Boulevard, North Miami Beach, FL. For reservations, call 305-365-3018 Adults $25, Kids 14 and younger $15.

Free Stuff

Family Fishing Clinic at the Sawgrass Wal-Mart, first Saturday of every month. Learn the finer points of fishing from fisherman extraordinaire Ron Gallo. For all ages and skill levels. 954-746-6476.


Island Boat Shuttle Service to Deerfield Island, a nature preserve. Sundays 10 am - 3 pm. Shuttle leaves hourly, reservations required. 954-360-1320.

Pelican Harbor Seabird Station, 1275 NE 79th Street Causeway, Miami, FL. See pelican families in their natural environment at this water bird refuge and rehabilitation center. Daily. Group tours require reservations. Free. 305-751-9840. Fridays at 8 am.

Aquarium Behind the Scenes at the Anne Kolb Nature Center, 751 Sheridan St., West Lake Park, Hollywood, FL Get a closer look at the 3,500-gallon saltwater aquarium in the nature's center exhibit hall. All ages. Saturdays and Sundays. Call for times, $1 admission. 954-926-2480
