FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (January 23, 2007) - The Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF) is pleased to announce that the30th Anniversary Waterway Cleanup presented by Charlie's Locker Nautical Outfitters is scheduled for Saturday, March 3, 2007. The Cleanup will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 32 designated cleanup sites in Broward County from Lighthouse Point in the north, to Hallandale Beach in the south, and west to Plantation.

"We are very proud to be celebrating thirty years of environmental stewardship at this year's Waterway Cleanup. MIASF believes it's important for the community to work together to protect our marine environment so we can ensure that boating remains a clean, safe and fun South Florida lifestyle for many years to come," said MIASF Director of Association Services Gordon Connell.

Waterway Cleanup has long been recognized as Broward County's largest environmental cleanup effort and annually draws broad-based business and community support and participation. "Over the past thirty years, close to 50,000 volunteers have worked to remove an estimated total of nearly 1,700 tons of trash - that's 3,400,000 pounds of garbage and debris - from the county's waterways," said Marilyn Mammano, Waterway Cleanup Committee Chair for the MIASF. "It's unbelievable what our Broward County community has been able to accomplish with this event and we look forward to continuing this strong tradition of environmental responsibility for another thirty years."

In addition to presenting sponsor Charlie's Locker Nautical Outfitters, local business, government agency and civic organization sponsors to date include: media partners CBS 4 and The Miami Herald; Poster Artist Carey Chen; partner sponsors Broward Beautiful, Broward County Environmental Protection Department, Florida Inland Navigation District, Publix Supermarkets, Boat Trader Magazine; first mate sponsors Coral Springs Improvement District, Broward County Waste and Recycling Services, Crooks Printing Service; second mate sponsors J.M. Family Enterprises, Myers Myers and Adams Advertising, Star brite, FlexSol; and
flag sponsor DoDocks.com.

Waterway Cleanup is Broward County's largest annual environmental cleanup effort. In 2006, the event brought together nearly 3,000 community volunteers who collected 62 tons of trash and debris from the area's 300 miles of navigable waterways.

The Cleanup is an integral part of the Association's "Our Waterways, Our Future...Our Responsibility" initiative, a campaign to build public participation in charting a course for the sustainability of Florida's most precious resource, its waterways.

The MIASF is a not-for-profit trade organization created in 1961 to promote and protect the sound growth of the marine industry in South Florida for the benefit and education of its members, the community and the environment. The Association has 800 members in Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach Counties and is the owner of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
