Nigel Calder on Navigation
Back by popular demand, Nigel Calder will be at Bluewater Books & Charts on Wednesday, October 11, at 5:30 PM, for a seminar and book signing. His last event at Bluewater drew a crowd of enthusiastic boaters, and the information he gave in his seminar was valuable to all.
"Today's WAAS-corrected GPS technology routinely provides navigators with real-time positional accuracy that has an error of less than 10 meters, and often less than 2 meters," Calder says. "Electronic navigation enables such fixes to be precisely plotted. Unfortunately,
there is not a chart sold today, paper or electronic, that supports such a level of accuracy." In this seminar, he will address this issue and discuss how boaters can navigate safely using the current technology.
Calder has written many books on mechanics, maintenance, cruising and navigation, including The Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual, Marine Diesel Engines, Refrigeration for Pleasureboats, Nigel Calder's Cruising Handbook, Cuba: A Cruising Guide, and How to Read a Nautical Chart.
The event will be accompanied by a wine and cheese reception, and the author will be happy to answer questions and sign books after the event.
